Re: Brentford today?
Soucek could be our first £100m player.

Goals, tackles, work rate, aerial presence.

Like a new Ballack.

Re: Brentford today?
Rice & Diop have small injuries & you dont risk playing injured players! I see no reason why we cannot finish comfortably in mid table this season. But I'm sure that the usual suspects on here will have us relegated by November, given our tough start!

Every old skool leaver creates a place for a happy-clappy newbie tourist shopper.

That shop full of off-the-club's-books tat don't sell itself.

Re: Brentford today?
That’s true Sven and some good points on here.
The fact they’re being allowed to hold back Rice and Diop, once again reeks of poor management as it inhibits preparation and
unsettles the side. Other successful clubs would just announce they’re not for sale and
forge ahead building a cohesive squad.
So the next game assuming they’re still with us - will be more of the same - this sends the wrong message to the remainder of the squad.
Assuming they go —and we blood in newbies then we end up in disarray because there’s
insufficient preparation . We can’t have that given the difficulty of the first 6 games or so and could easily wind up rock bottom and adrift due to this Mickey Mouse approach that has been the norm past years. It’s truly pathetic.

Re: Brentford today?
Difficult to judge today's "team" performance because of the number of changes and neither set of players would be a selection in its own right.

Looking at individual performances, however, pretty much confirms what we know already.
The main concerns being left-back and a centre back.
Neither Masuaku nor Cresswell seem good enough. Today Arthur looked better going forward. But we know he can't defend. Balbuena is slow and predictable he has one pass out down the line to the right full-back (normally manages it okay) He doesn't bully or dominate opponents.
The right-back slot is barely adequately covered by either Fredericks or Johnson. If only the former could pass, and first half he was out of position for their goal although the centre-halves didn't cover.
Midfield - surely Moyes would never in a proper game start Noble and Wilshere (America beckons for sure)
Cullen isn't a prem player. Fornals is becoming one. Yarmolenko has at least one good half in him and an eye for goal. Haller is an enigma ( or maybe that should read an enema) Diangana has got bigger and may do a job. Lanzini is looking sharper while Anderson isn't. Bowen and Soucek are nailed on starters while Antonio is good but liable to injury And that Moyes doesn't rate trust or fancy Silva.

Oh yes also Rice and Diop have a price but not if they are damaged!

Re: Brentford today?
As I’ve said before if they are going to sell Rice they might as well pack up the whole circus & give the stadium back to the shot putters
It’s a sign of giving up
If they can’t deal with the finances sell up and piss off

Fredericks, Masuaku, Cresswell & Wilshere (& probably Balbuena)need to be shifted and replaced along with the two back up strikers just sold
Every year with these clowns takes us further & further away from the mythical NEXT LEVEL

Sullivan if he's pops on here .will be rubbing his hands with glee . I've never seen a club fan base with such a shitty small club mentality .

Spot on.
He's absolutely finished he's got to be offloaded if possible.
Would never have touched him a truly fucking disastrous signing and spectacular waste of wages.
The thought of him and Noble in midfield is horrible to day the least.
I'm very very worried about next season I don't fancy our chances one bit of surviving unless there are three or four decent additions.
Gold and Sullivans luck I feel is about to run out spectacularly

Re: Brentford today?
If we do nothing else we have to get a decent left back. Cresswell is not up to it and Arfur even worse in that position. Both will cost us chances or goals against in every game they play.

Lee Trundle 6:27 Sat Aug 29
Re: Brentford today?
Antonio's injury is a timely reminder that we'd be mad to count on him.

We need another striker unless Silva steps up.

Sir Alf 6:25 Sat Aug 29
Re: Brentford today?
Not much has changed. Squad is too weak, unbalanced.

Injury to one or more of Antonio, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Ogbonna and we are in trouble again. I can only see another long season of us trying to stay out of relegation trouble or being slap bang in it. Mid-Table possible only with luck with injuries which simply does not happen at West Ham.

The White Horse 6:24 Sat Aug 29
Re: Brentford today?
They’re not going to risk an injury to Rice - in the eventuality Chelsea meet the valuation.
If the happens then it’s going to be decision time for all.
Diop same. If a big money offer comes in there will be the option to sell. If they were to get injured then....

An option is to play Bowen in a more attacking role. He didn’t score all those goals last year for Hull playing that deep. Souceck is outscoring him. If he’s played more forward then he’ll knock some in.

That being said we desperately need a striker even without this injury today. Well many have stated the obvious.
Within two weeks a striker and a full back is essential. This and resolution of the Diop and Rice situations (they stay) would put us good shape and we’d have the rest of the window to fine tune - offload Anderson as an example.
But at this club nothing is done easily and in the required timeframe.

Re: Brentford today?
If everyone stays fit we have quite a talented squad to choose from. Although we really are heavily reliant on a few players and if one of those are missing we suddenly look very vulnerable.

Lily Hammer 6:11 Sat Aug 29
Re: Brentford today?
Fornals was OK in the number 10 role. An assist and tireless closing down. He should share that position with Noble for now. Each starting some matches, being replaced by one another. Diangana to take over on the left.

Bowen missed Rice and Noble, who are the ones that feed him the best.

El Scorchio 6:08 Sat Aug 29
Re: Brentford today?
Can't read too much into a friendly.

You just want the players to get a decent run out and no-one to get injured. Moyes was clearly just looking at all our options ahead of the new season.

We are definitely still one striker light. TBH I'd just make Anderson one. Then at least he doesn't have to do the bits he can't or won't do like tracking back and tackling. Hes fast and can finish.

Saw enough of Rico Henry to say buy him using savings from getting rid of Wheelchair who makes Noble look like Bryan Robson

Worrying stuff. If we do sell Rice and/or Diop, I can see the fan relationship with the board dropping to a whole new nadir.
